JFK embodied mine
I believed, had hope, struggled
Now distant, now dust

My bung is away
Searching for its mother tree
Our wine has spilt

Walter Disney too
Chose the Wild Strawberry Tree
Creates a love note

Mushrooms hot in pan
Life support from Mother Earth
Keep on keepin’ on

Empty on this day
A nation is giving birth
Count fingers and toes

We have trees: pears, plums, and apples on our little piece of the earth, 1 acre, here in the mountains. A few years ago, the UCSC agriculture students who visited and evaluated our soil and made recommendations said we have some of the best earth in California. After we modified some fencing and out-buildings to improve the airflow, our fruit is doing very well. They said the one big “IF” thing is, will you always have enough water? Our earth is drying, and the local water company is tightening watering restrictions. May the fruit live long and prosper.
